Fernie Alpine Resort is located in the Southeast corner of the B.C. Rockies approximately 60 km (40 miles) from the Alberta and U.S. borders. It is 5 km (3 miles) from the City of Fernie and a three hour drive from Calgary. An amazing 29 feet of natural snow blankets the ski area's impressive five alpine bowls nestled in the majestic limestone cliffs of the Lizard Range in the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia.
The facilties at Fernie have grown dramatically over the last few years and the result is a destination resort that takes its place among North America's finest. Located in the south-east corner of British Columbia, Fernie's skiable terrain has nearly doubled in the last few years making it larger than Snowmass, Jackson Hole and Taos. The powder that has made Fernie a haven for deep snow enthusiasts is produced by storm systems that develop in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Northern Oregon. The predominant south-westerly flow chugs across the near desert-like terrain of central Washington and Idaho before slamming into the Lizard Range of the Canadian Rockies. For a change of scene after a day on the slopes, the quaint city of Fernie, rich in coal mining history and turn-of-the-century architecture, is sure to please the whole family and is only minutes away from the resort. |
