The hotel is only 2 blocks west of the St-Louis Gate and across the way from Parliament Hill. Anchoring the east end of the action-filled Grande-Allée, you'd never guess this was once a dowdy old-timer utterly lacking in distinction. A few years ago, the owners took over an adjoining building and added 65 newer, larger, jazzier units. Some of them have working fireplaces, Jacuzzis, and king beds; all enjoy the comforts and doodads of a first-class hotel. The new rooms are clearly more desirable than those in the plainer and more cramped original wing. A bar and bistro remain in front, down a few steps from Grande-Allée, while the expansive new lobby is located on the Georges V side.
