Part 1: Dog Sledding at Lake Laberge
01
You arrive in Whitehorse. Check in at your hotel in the heart of the town, close to the frozen Yukon River. You may want to take the opportunity to complete your equipment or just relax from traveling.

After picking you up in Whitehorse, we will drive the North Klondike Hwy to Lake Laberge. We will cross the lake to the home of the Cathers family by dog team, snowmobile or, if the ice road is in, by truck. The Cathers have lived here at the shore of Lake Laberge for almost 20 years. They have over 80 dogs to take care of and have entered the famous 1000 mile Yukon Quest sled dog race 16 times.

Now, it's time to get to know your new companions: your dogteam will be introduced to you by an experienced musher. You will learn how to hook up the dogs to the sled and how to command them. Mushing involves learning basic techniques for steering and controlling the sled, observing the dogs, and helping them to do their job. Mostly, you just stand on the sled enjoying the scenery, but sometimes you can help the dogs by pumping with one foot or walking up a hill behind them. To start with, you will drive a small team of dogs on our nearby beginner trails. This will make you comfortable with the trapper way of travel. The following days, as you learn the basics of dogmushing, you build up to a slightly larger team. We will explore more challenging trails on and around beautiful Lake Laberge. If conditions allow, we even can go along a short section of the famous Yukon Quest Trail.

You will feel that time went by too fast. Say goodbye to your Husky friends before a member of the friendly Cathers family will drive you back to Whitehorse. Check in at your downtown hotel.

Part 2: Northern Lights Viewing

After breakfast you will board a bush plane, which will take you to frances lake. Enjoy the flight over endless forests, frozen meadows and rivers. Keep an eye out for caribou. At the lodge, you will be shown to your cozy cabin. Explore the vicinity of the lodge and enjoy the incredible beauty and silence of Frances Lake. Evenings, a hearty dinner will be served in the main building, which boasts an awesome view of the Logan Mountains. The lodge also features a bright and comfortable living room with a small library.

08-11
Together, we will explore and enjoy the fairytale winter paradise. Try cross-country skiing or snow-shoeing. The trails will lead us along the lake and through forests to exciting viewpoints. We might spot a few moose or wolves, but for sure, there will be no other humans. A longer excursion will bring us to a creek where we will find the frozen stairs of a waterfall. Many animals are around the lake and you will learn to tell their tracks apart. How about catching a fish through the thick ice? It's not easy, but fun trying. And at night, with a bit of luck, we will be rewarded by watching the dancing Northern Lights.
The incredible silence may only be interrupted by the howling of the wolves. If you want to spend more relaxing days at the beautiful Frances Lake Wilderness Lodge just lay back in the warmth of your cozy cabin. Or ease off and try a sauna.

Things to know
Northern winters are cold but dry. In March, you can expect lots of sunshine with day temperatures of +5o to -20 degrees. At night, the temperature may drop further down. The ice on the lake is about 60 cm thick with a snowlayer of 10 up to 30 cm. Planning our daily excursions, we’ll always have to consider the weather.
